Ahmed Audi, the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has committed to eliminating criminal elements that have been causing turmoil in Niger State recently. Audi made this commitment during his official visit to Niger State Governor Umar Bago.
According to a statement by the Corps Spokesperson, Babawale Afolabi, on Wednesday, the CG emphasized that the Corps will enhance its collaborative efforts with other law enforcement agencies in the state to effectively tackle the prevailing security issues.
Audi said, “We came around to see for ourselves, a kind of on-the-spot assessment, of the security situation in Niger State and to familiarise ourselves with you.
“We hope to work on our synergy with other security agencies in the state and create a better security atmosphere for the people of Niger State.”
He urged the governor to establish additional office facilities for the NSCDC in every one of the 26 local governments within the State.
During his speech, Governor Bago expressed gratitude for the timely visit by the NSCDC Chief. Nevertheless, he expressed his distress over the actions of bandits, cattle rustlers, and unlawful miners, among various other criminal activities in the state.
The governor added that farmers were significantly affected, with many leaving their farmlands due to concerns about potential attacks.
Bago said “Niger State is being referred to as the food basket of the country largely due to our largest land mass in the country which is also suitable for agriculture. “But the growing security concern means that our people are constantly at the mercy of bandits and other criminal elements.”
