Chelsea’s pursuit of Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez is progressing, as he is no longer in the Seagulls’ plans, according to reports. With Edouard Mendy’s departure, Chelsea is searching for a new goalkeeper, with Kepa Arrizabalaga’s performances under scrutiny.
Sanchez is being considered as a potential replacement for Kepa, and the Daily Mail reports that negotiations for the Spain international to join Chelsea are advancing. The 25-year-old was previously Brighton’s first-choice keeper but has slipped down the pecking order under Roberto De Zerbi, training with the Under-18 side due to being out of favor.
Brighton had initially valued Sanchez at around £30 million, but the price may be negotiated lower given his current situation. Chelsea’s goalkeeping coach, Ben Roberts, a former Brighton staff, is keen on Sanchez making the move to Stamford Bridge.
As Sanchez’s exit from Brighton seems inevitable, the Blues continued their pre-season preparations with a 2-0 win over Fulham in Maryland, with Thiago Silva and Christopher Nkunku finding the net.
