Nigeria Super Falcon qualified for the knock-out stage of the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup after a goalless draw against the Republic of Ireland on Monday morning.
A draw was enough for coach Randy Waldrum’s side with Canada trailing 3-0 against Australia with ten minutes before full-time. The win takes the host to the top of the log with six points while Nigeria emerged as Group B runners-up with five points as Canada heads home.
Coach Randy Waldrum made one change from the line-up that defeated the Matildas 3-1, starting with Asisat Oshoala in the attack while Anumonu returned to the bench.
The only major highlight in the first half was Oshoala’s miss 15th minutes into the match. Aware of the result from the other game, Falcons were comfortable knocking the ball around to guarantee qualification.
Nigeria will come up against England in the knockout stage with the Three Lioness tipped to win Group D while Australia face Denmark after 4-0 thumping of Olympic Champions, Canada.
