Bassey Etim, also known as Ironbar, a Nigerian gold medallist, has been using his strength and energy to work on roads in the Ajah area of Lagos State. In a TikTok interview with @_egungun, Etim shared his dedication to making a positive impact in society through weightlifting.
While it’s not entirely clear if road work has been his primary means of livelihood, during the interview, our correspondent witnessed a heartwarming moment when a motorist appreciated his hard work by giving him money.
Dressed in all-black attire, Etim was seen using his shovel to fill potholes on the damaged road. He expressed his passion for weightlifting, mentioning that he won a gold medal for Lagos State during his first competition at the 1981 National World Festival.
Etim said:
“My name is Bassey Etim, aka IronBar. I am from Cross Rivers State, I was born in 1965. When I was in my youth, I was getting into trouble and I decided to transfer the negative energy to positive energy.
So, I joined weightlifting. My first competition was in the 1981 National World Festival in which I won gold for Lagos State.”
The gold medallist, in his conversation with @_egungun, revealed that he has been voluntarily working on roads for seven years. As a parting gesture, @_egungun handed Etim N50,000 and offered a heartfelt prayer for his success in all his endeavors. Etim expressed his joy and gratitude at the end of the video clip.
