Kidnappers free businesswoman after payment of N8m ransom in Ogun

A businesswoman, Mujidat Otefila who was abducted by gunmen in Ogun State has regained her freedom after reportedly paying the sum of N8million as ransom.

Otefila and her daughter were on Saturday night abducted by gunmen at their residence in Oju-Ilu Community Development Area, Isale, Imeko township at the back of Imeko-Afon local government Secretariat.

The gunmen ambushed Otefila while driving into her compound after returning from her shop.

The kidnappers later abandoned the daughter and the vehicle.

A family source said the kidnappers demanded N30 million as ransom, but later reduced it to N15 million.

The husband of the victim was reported to have negotiated and paid N8 million to secure the release of his wife.

The family source who pleaded anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the matter, said N8m was paid to secure the release of the woman.

The source said “She was released at Republic of Benin. She was hid in the bush between Nigeria and Benin border. 

“They initially requested for N30m, later N15m then the husband agreed on N8m that he wants the safety of her life. We thank God she has been secured.”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Omolola Odutola said the command was not aware of the ransom payment.

She said “the command is not privy to that information. Once the DPO replies I will send it to you.”
