Drug abuse fueling insecurity – Yobe monarch laments

The Emir of Fika and Chairman of the Yobe State Council of Chiefs, Dr. Muhammadu Abali Ibn Muhammadu Idrissa, highlighted the role of drug abuse in exacerbating the security challenges within the state.

Speaking to members of the correspondents’ chapel at his palace in Potiskum town, the emir pointed out that the recent attack on the Gurjaje community in the Fika Local Government Area, resulting in the loss of one life and the destruction of over 100 houses, underscored the connection between drug abuse and the security incident.

Emphasizing that 60 per cent of the affected population comprises youths, he called on the state government and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to devise strategic plans aimed at curbing the use of illicit drugs.

Additionally, he urged the government to implement development initiatives in the impacted areas, citing prevalent economic hardships in the country.
