Adamawa confirms index lassa fever case

The Adamawa State Government has officially announced the confirmation of the first case of Lassa fever within its jurisdiction.

In a statement released by the State Ministry of Health & Human Services, the index case was identified as a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) stationed at the state’s permanent orientation camp in Damare, near Yola. Although the victim’s identity remains undisclosed, she is referred to as ‘her,’ indicating that she is a female corps member.

According to the statement, the corps member, showing symptoms suggestive of Lassa fever, was promptly transferred to the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital Yola, where she tested positive for the virus. Confirmation was made following the examination of samples sent to the National Reference Laboratory in Abuja.

Signed by the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Health & Human Services, Zira Mathias Bubanani, the statement emphasized the importance of personal hygiene practices as preventive measures. It reassured the public that necessary steps were being taken to contain the spread of the disease, urging them not to panic.

Furthermore, the ministry urged individuals to report any suspected cases of Lassa fever to the nearest hospital or healthcare provider for prompt intervention.
