Next week marks the beginning of the removal of unauthorized structures erected in the Isi Gate, Uzuakoli Road, Corporative, and Aba Road areas of Umuahia, the capital of Abia State.
The Umuahia Capital Development Authority (UCDA) delivered a final warning during a meeting with landlords, specifically those conducting business in the affected zones. Kingsley Agomuo, the General Manager of UCDA, strongly urged landlords and other occupants of illegal structures and makeshift accommodations to dismantle them before the December 1 deadline set by the state government.
Property owners were cautioned that any expenses incurred in demolishing these structures would be the responsibility of the building owners. Agomuo emphasized the urgency for landlords and occupants to take action themselves to avoid bearing the costs of government-led removal.
Failure to comply with the directive would result in penalties for non-compliant landlords. The UCDA stressed the importance of restoring orderliness to Umuahia.
Moreover, traders at Isi Gate received notice to vacate their current spaces as both the UCDA and the Abia State Ministry of Trade, Commerce, and Investment declared that the market’s recognized location had been relocated, no longer holding recognition by the state government.
