The Chief Press Secretary to the Bayelsa State, Daniel Alabrah, has said that all should wait until 14th of October, 2025 to know if the governor was really decamping to All Progressive Congress or not.
Alabrah maintained that the governor may have thought about the defection thoroughly before taking the decision to dump People’s Democratic Party.
Recall also that Governor Douye Diri that still has about two more years to go to complete his second tenure won under PDP.
Recall that a national tabloid (not New Telegraph Newspaper),had broken the news that Governor Douye Diri was set to dump PDP on the 14th of October, 2025.
But his spokesman, speaking on phone with this correspond today said that the was not in a position to say whether he was moving to APC or not maintaining that the governor will make that known on the said date.
When the day comes, he will tell everybody whether it is true or lie. Let’s wait till 14th of October and see whether he will defect or not.
“I’m aware the rumor has been going on that he wants to defect. May be it is time for the rumour to end so that we know where we are and where we are going.
On the reason why he wants to defect to APC, the source said: ” Governor Diri is the only person that can that answer, nobody else can answer that question.
“I’m only a spokesman which means there is someone I’m speaking for. I can only speak the one that I know and I won’t speak the one that I don’t know.
“I think they have fixed date, let’s wait till 14 of October. If there will be any update on this report it will be after 14th. If eventually he does, Bayelsa will not be an APC state but Bayelsa will be governed by APC Governor but it doesn’t mean that Bayelsa will become an APC State automatically.
“Until we get to elections that is when we know where the state is.
All the states that their governors are defecting, until there is a fresh election, the state cannot determine which way the state will go.
“In 2027, that is when you will know where these states their governors decamped to APC is going to be APC or PDP states.
“You can say that the governor of the state has moved to APC but you cannot say that it is an APC state because it is the voters that will determine that.
“If the governor is moving to APC he will inform all his cabinet members and he will expect everyone to follow him because he appointed them. Any body that doesn’t want go to APC with him will definitely resign. Just as it happened in Delta and Akwaibom.
” But what I’m saying is that the governor could go to APC. You can’t say that because a governor moved to APC, you will conclude that the state is now APC.
“When it comes to elections, you can’t say that this will win. This state you can only say that this state is governed by either a PDP or an APC Governor.
“On why he may be moving now the APC, the CPS said that those are personal decision that a leader can take and he has his reasons why he took those kind of decision.
“You that is working with him can’t question him. If you are not comfortable with it, you leave. He is not going to force anybody. If your boss is crossing over to another party and you move with him it means that you have also accepted to follow him.” He explained.
