12 Held Over Arise TV Journalist’s Murder

A breakthrough has been made in the investigation into the murder of Somtochukwu Christella Maduagwu, a journalist with Arise Television, who was killed in her Abuja residence during a robbery attack weeks ago.

According to Rufai Oseni, a colleague of the deceased journalist, the police have arrested 12 members of the notorious armed robbery syndicate suspected to be responsible for the crime.

The police operation, led by ACP Victor Godfrey of the Scorpion Squad, was based on advanced digital and reconstructive intelligence provided by Giga Forensics, a subsidiary of EIB Stratoc. The suspects, who have confessed to their involvement in the crime, were arrested while they were allegedly planning another robbery operation in Maitama, Abuja.

The murder of Maduagwu and a security guard, Mr. Barnabas Danlami, sent shockwaves through the journalism community and beyond. The incident occurred on September 29, 2025, at Unique Apartments in Gishiri Village, Katampe District, Abuja, around 3:30 a.m. The police have confirmed that investigations are still ongoing and further developments will be communicated in due course.

The arrests bring hope to the family and colleagues of the deceased journalist that justice will be served. The case highlights the need for increased security measures to protect citizens, particularly in high-risk areas. As the investigation continues, the police are expected to provide more details on the suspects and their alleged roles in the crime.
