The Osun State Police Command has declared a former Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state, Nurudeen Alowonle, popularly known as Ola mummy, and an Ile-Ife-based NURTW leader, Olayemi Ojo, alias Sibi, wanted over the killing of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir, an aide to Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, announced the development on Monday while parading six suspects arrested in connection with the murder at the command headquarters in Osogbo.
Oyeyemi was reportedly killed on September 13, 2026, when armed men allegedly invaded the NURTW park at Mayfair, Ile-Ife, and opened fire.
Addressing journalists, Zungura said the command had made significant progress in its investigation and was intensifying efforts to apprehend the two suspects and others still at large.
“Alowonle and Sibi have been declared wanted. The command is intensifying efforts to apprehend Nurudeen Alowonle, Adeyemi Ojo, aka Sibi, and other suspects currently at large who are alleged to have participated in the heinous crime,” the commissioner said.
According to him, the command received a distress call on September 13 reporting that armed men had invaded Mayfair Garage, Ile-Ife, and fired sporadically, resulting in Oyeyemi’s death.
He added that a fatal motor accident was also reported at the Energy Filling Station along the Ile-Ife-Ibadan Road on the same day.
Following the incident, the commissioner said he directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case and ensure a thorough investigation.
Zungura disclosed that sustained investigative efforts by the homicide section, with assistance from the Amotekun Corps commandant, led to the arrest of four suspects allegedly connected with the incident.
The four suspects were identified as Amotekun operatives attached to Alowonle. They are Tijani Ismail, Akinsola Ekundayo, Sijuade Moruf Oyinlola and Ayeni Adegbola Olalekan.
The police commissioner further disclosed that investigators arrested Hammed Olalekan Dauda, popularly known as Jagaban, a NURTW official and secretary of Aregbe Motor Park, who was allegedly linked to the crime.
According to Zungura, Dauda was reportedly found in possession of a locally modified firearm described as a cut-to-size gun. The commissioner said the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation that Alowonle gave him the weapon.
Another suspect, Waliu Adejare, popularly known as Jay Jay, who was identified as the person in charge of Aregbe Motor Park in Osogbo and a personal assistant to Alowonle, was also arrested in connection with the incident.
The commissioner alleged that the suspects were mobilised by Alowonle and Ojo, adding that the police were pursuing further leads to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and apprehend everyone suspected to have participated in the crime.
The police said investigations were ongoing, while efforts to arrest the two wanted men and other suspects at large had been intensified.
The suspects’ alleged involvement in the crime has yet to be established in court.
