The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, NSIB, has commenced an investigation into an incident involving a Challenger 604 aircraft which suffered a door separation shortly after takeoff in Abuja.
The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja.
Badeh said the aircraft, registration T7-SEI, operated by Triton, departed Abuja for Lagos at 1612 UTC when the incident occurred.
According to him, at 3 nautical miles, while passing 3,500 feet, the crew declared a mayday after the door separated.
He said the aircraft returned to Abuja and landed safely on Runway 22 at 1634 UTC, with nine persons on board, comprising three crew members and six passengers.
“The door has been recovered and secured at the NSIB wreckage hangar. The Bureau has commenced its investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the occurrence,” Badeh said.
He assured that the Bureau would provide further updates as investigation progresses.
