A 55-year-old driver has narrowly escaped death after a train collided with his Honda car at the PWD railway crossing in Ikeja, Lagos, on the morning of Friday, October 9.
The incident left the vehicle badly damaged, but the driver was fortunate to escape without any apparent injuries.
Eyewitnesses reportedly helped the man out of the wrecked car, after which he was seen walking away from the scene on his own.
According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the accident involved a train travelling towards Agege and a Honda car with registration number EKY 902 JT.
LASTMA officials, working alongside security personnel, rescued the motorist and removed the damaged vehicle from the railway tracks, allowing the train to continue its journey.
However, despite efforts to clear the scene, the accident caused traffic congestion around the PWD area, leaving motorists to contend with delays.
The incident serves as another reminder of the importance of caution around railway crossings, where a moment of misjudgment can have devastating consequences.
