Chairman of the 10-man independent committee set up by the federal government to investigate the deaths of 37 persons in Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) custody in Minna, Mr. Jonathan Kure has assured that the outcome of the investigation will bring succour.
Kure, who is also a retired Deputy Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), stated this when he led other members of the committee on a visit to the Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago at the government house in Minna.
The Chairman who disclosed that the committee was in Minna to carry out the task given to them by President Bola Tinubu disclosed that the medical team has already commenced work immediately after its inauguration so as not to miss some elements required for the investigation.
According to him “I want to assure you that we will display the independent status that has been bestowed on us by making sure that justice is done.
“We will do our best to unravel what went wrong. And we will apportion blame where blame needs to go.
“Anybody who has been brought into this that has nothing to do with it, where we see it, we will also be fair to such a person”.
He used the opportunity to condole with the government and people of the state over the incident, saying it is a concern, not only for the state but also the entire country.
In his response, Governor Umaru Bago thanked the committee for the visit and promised that the state government will support and cooperate where necessary to ensure the success of the committee.
He expressed confidence that the committee will unravel the circumstances that led to the deaths of the 37 people.
“The world is watching, and the committee consists of people of integrity across relevant sectors; I believe they will do justice,” he said.
