Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have recovered a six round English made pistol during a stop-and-search operation in Nnewi.
The recovery was made on Friday evening, September 26, 2026, by a joint team of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Nnewi Sector, and Police Mobile Force (PMF) 54, during visibility patrol in Nnewi North.
Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, said the team intercepted two men riding a Tiger 150 motorcycle without registration number.
He identified the suspects as Ekwulugo Chiemierie Joseph, 33, and Enyiobi Geoffrey Somtochukwu, 29.
Ikenga said the pistol was recovered after the suspects were subjected to a search, adding that they were immediately taken into custody.
According to him, investigation is ongoing to establish how the suspects came about the firearm, where it was obtained and what it was intended for. He added that the Command is also probing possible links to other criminal activities.
Reacting to the recovery, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, said it underscores the importance of sustained visibility patrols and coordinated stop and search operations.
He noted that such operations remain critical in disrupting the movement of illegal firearms and other dangerous weapons capable of facilitating violent crimes.
The CP assured residents of Nnewi and the state at large that the Command would sustain proactive patrols and intelligence led operations across Anambra.
He called on Ndi Anambra to remain vigilant and continue to provide credible information on suspicious persons and movements in their communities.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to keeping the state safe in collaboration with the public.
