The Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Chikun State Constituency House of Assembly, Hon. Matthew Moses, met with a group of widows in Karatudu, Gonin Gora, as part of his ongoing community engagements ahead of the 2027 elections.
The meeting held yesterday brought together members of the widows’ group and members of the campaign team, including the Director-General of the campaign, Mr. Isaac, who joined the engagement and spoke with the women.
Introducing the candidate, the leadership of the group welcomed Hon. Matthew Moses and expressed appreciation for his decision to visit them at their own centre rather than inviting them to another location.
The head of the women, Mrs. Ife Bams, commended Hon. Matthew Moses for his humility and described his decision to personally meet the women at their centre as significant.
She noted that, unlike previous experiences where politicians invited the women to other locations, Hon. Matthew Moses chose to come directly to them.
Hon. Matthew Moses told the women that his commitment to supporting widows and vulnerable members of society predates the current political season through the Dr. Matt Foundation.
He appealed for their support for his candidacy and expressed his willingness to work closely with women throughout the campaign and beyond.
He also emphasised the importance of working together with the community and ensuring that women remain an important part of the political process.
Speaking on behalf of the campaign team, the Director-General, Mr. Isaac, said the campaign was primarily seeking the support and trust of the people rather than making promises that could not be guaranteed.
He assured the women of Hon. Matthew Moses’ commitment to serving the people and said that where genuine needs arise and the campaign is in a position to provide support, such assistance would be extended.
One of the women, Mrs. Naomi, said it was the first time a politician had visited the group since its formation. She appealed to Hon. Matthew Moses to remember the women if elected and pledged the group’s support for his aspiration.
Another member, Mrs. Habiba James, declared the group’s support for the candidate and said the women would continue to pray for him and his success.
Members of the campaign team, including Mrs. Talaka and Mr. Oludare, also encouraged the women to join forces with the campaign, mobilise their families and communities, and participate actively in the political process.
The meeting also featured prayers for Hon. Matthew Moses and for peace and a free and fair electoral process in 2027.
Speaking during the meeting, Mr. Emmanuel described the community as fortunate to have a coordinator with the capacity and understanding to engage effectively with the people, while Mr. Itoba encouraged the team to strengthen grassroots mobilisation through direct engagement and door-to-door campaigning.
The meeting ended with remarks from the Director-General and prayers from the women, who reiterated their support and commitment to the campaign.
The engagement forms part of Hon. Matthew Moses’ continuing grassroots consultations across Chikun Constituency, with a focus on listening directly to communities and strengthening relationships with women, vulnerable groups and other stakeholders ahead of the 2027 election.
