The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has commenced preparations for the 2027 general elections with a directive to its state and local government leadership to begin the compilation of party agents across the country, even as it announced plans to officially kick off its presidential campaign in October.
In a directive issued by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and signed by Osa Director Esq., the NDC instructed all State Chairmen and Local Government Area (LGA) Chairmen to immediately convene meetings with candidates and key stakeholders to harmonise and submit lists of party agents for the forthcoming elections.
The party said the move was in compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026, and aimed at strengthening its grassroots structures ahead of the polls.
According to the directive, state and LGA party leaders are expected to generate two separate lists of party agents — one for the National Assembly elections and another for the governorship and state assembly elections.
The NDC further stated that the proposed agents would be scrutinised and ratified by the party leadership, including its presidential candidate and running mate, before the commencement of training programmes.
The party stressed that all agreed lists must be counter-signed by the respective State Chairmen and candidates to guarantee authenticity and ownership.
It added that in situations where disagreements arise between party leadership and candidates over the selection of agents, the preference of the candidate would take precedence.
“The exercise shall be concluded and the final list submitted within two weeks from the date of this directive,” the statement said.
The party leadership expressed confidence in its level of preparedness for the elections, assuring members and supporters that all necessary structures had been put in place for a successful and issue-driven campaign.
“The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is fully prepared and ready for a robust, issue-based campaign, with all necessary structures firmly in place for victory,” the statement added.
The party also urged stakeholders at all levels to comply promptly with the directive to ensure a smooth and coordinated electioneering process ahead of the official launch of its presidential campaign scheduled for October.
