Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, on Monday distributed 100 units of operational vehicles to security agencies in the state to boost their operations and ensure Ekiti retains its status as the most peaceful state in Nigeria.
Speaking at the official distribution ceremony in Ado-Ekiti, Governor Oyebanji said, “We are gathered here today in fulfilment of yet, another promise made to our people, especially the security agencies. Today’s occasion is testament to the resolve of our administration to ensure the security of lives and property in Ekiti State remains the number one priority of our government.”
The Governor noted that his administration has shown serious commitment to security since assumption of office. “This has led to the selection of Ekiti State as one of the most secured States in the country,” he said, adding that two years ago, his government distributed patrol vehicles, Armoured Personnel Carriers, bullet proof vests, helmets and other security equipment to the agencies.
Oyebanji explained that, “Lined up here are 100 units of security vehicles, primarily for operations and mobility of your personnel and the eventual take-off of the Ekiti State Police Outfit.” He assured that his administration will continue to support security agencies with all necessary resources, including regular monthly financial support and increased capacity for state-owned security institutions.
Charging the security chiefs on effective utilization, the Governor declared, “Dear security Chiefs, to whom much is given, much is expected. With the provision of these vehicles, I will want to see increased patrols, strategic visibility, faster response and spontaneous agility on the part of your men. There should be no reasons for excuses, lapses or unprofessional conduct.”
He further urged the intelligence community to step up collaboration, saying, “I want to also implore the intelligence community in the State to avail themselves of the surveillance technological assets available in the State and to take the advantage of same. Agencies must not work in silos but collaboratively in the interest of our collective security.”
While appreciating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing financial support for the procurement and revealing plans to establish a maintenance garage with CIG Motors, Oyebanji warned against poor maintenance. “It is very uncomplimentary that the security agencies are generally perceived to be poor at maintaining utilities. I challenge you to prove those holding this perception wrong. We should have no reasons to complain of bad vehicles in the years to come, if these vehicles are carefully used and well maintained,” he stated.
Speaking at the event, the Special Adviser to the governor on Security Matters, Brig. Gen. Ebenezer Ogundana(retd) said the administration of Governor Oyebanji is committed to the security of lives and property of the citizens, hence the renewed investment in the security sector.
He declared that following the government’s deliberate efforts and investment, Ekiti was ranked the most peaceful state in the country, adding that:” the vehicles would enhance the operational efficiency of the security agencies”.
