The Presidency has described the delivery of weapons to the Nigerian Air Force by the United States as a demonstration of a deepened cooperation with Nigeria in the fight against insecurity.
Presidential spokesman. Bayo Onanuga on his X-handle.on Thursday said this on Thursday sharing details released by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM).
The equipment was delivered last weekend by a United States Air Force C-17 aircraft under a Foreign Military Sales agreement between the United States and Nigeria.
AFRICOM described the delivery as “Partnership in action,” saying the equipment was part of an agreement aimed at further strengthening the US-Nigeria defence relationship and enhancing Nigeria-led efforts to counter terrorism and other security threats in the region.
The U.S. military command said the delivery demonstrated the growing security partnership between Washington and Abuja, particularly in the fight against terrorism and other threats confronting the region.
The development was another pointer to international support being attracted by the Tinubu’s administration in the fight against insecurity in the country.
AFRICOM’s description of the delivery as “Partnership in action” underscored the strategic importance attached by both countries to their expanding defence relationship.
The equipment formed part of a Foreign Military Sales arrangement designed to deepen the U.S.-Nigeria defence partnership and support Nigeria’s efforts to confront terrorism and other security threats.
