The closure and commencement of maintenance work on the first Niger bridge has been described as a show of timely response to the impending economic doom that would have befallen the South East and South South geopolitical zone should the bridge be allowed to collapse.
Recall that Minister for Works Engr Dave Umahi during a working visit to Anambra, Delta and Edo states had announced the likelihood of the bridge being closed for one week in order to effect repairs due to the activities of vandalism in the area.
Consequently the federal government yesterday announced the closure of the bridge for two weeks which took effect yesterday.
Against this backdrop the Anambra state Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC )Sen Emma Anosike in a statement described this move as a quick response by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu towards saving the South East and South South from a looming economic and commercial doom should the bridge be allowed to totally collapse.
According to Anosike, this is a vindication that the regime of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu is indeed responsive to the socioeconomic needs of the people of the South East and South South adding that the repairs are instructive giving the status of the two geopolitical zones in the area of commerce and industry.
“We as a political party are once again vindicated by the compassion and quick response shown by Mr President through embarking on the repair of that bridge without delay”
“This is because, people have gone to town because of election to peddle rumors and falsehood about Mr President but today they are no longer saying anything with what is happening”
“They claimed that President Ahmed Bola Tinubu is anti Igbo but what is happening now with the total overhaul of the old River Niger which is our commercial and economic gateway? ”
“We in the APC Anambra state commend President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for this show of quality leadership and magnanimity ”
“We also salute our able working Minister for Works His Excellency Dave Umahi for the beautiful job his doing about the road infrastructure in the South East and South South”
“We also use this opportunity to once again urge our people in the South East to reelect President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for second term in view of the fact that with what he has done so far , the next four years would be better ” he said.
