The Chairman of Olorunda Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Badagry, Lagos State, Hon. Ajose Peter Kumayon, has highlighted a series of achievements recorded within his first year in office, citing major investments in healthcare, infrastructure, education, security and social welfare under his administration’s RESHAPE Agenda.
The council said the projects and programmes were designed to improve living standards and promote inclusive development across communities within the LCDA.
A statement released to commemorate the administration’s one-year anniversary noted that healthcare has remained a major focus, with the rehabilitation and remodelling of the Yeponawa Primary Health Centre, which had remained abandoned for years after its construction.
According to the statement, the facility, originally built by the former member representing Badagry Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, but left unused, has now been transformed into a functional health centre serving Yeponawa and neighbouring communities.
The council also disclosed that reconstruction and remodelling work is ongoing at the Morogbo Primary Health Centre, while a solar power system has been installed at the Ilado Primary Health Centre to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply.
It added that modern dental equipment was procured for the Ilado facility to establish a dental unit, while 500 elderly residents and vulnerable women were enrolled under the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA) scheme to improve access to healthcare services.
On infrastructure, the administration said work has commenced on the reconstruction and expansion of the Mowo-Agemowo Road, with the first phase covering 600 metres already in progress.
It also listed the construction of the Imeke Town Hall and the near completion of the Aradagun Town Hall as part of efforts to strengthen community development.
Other projects include the installation of solar-powered electricity at the council secretariat in Iworo, the provision of solar streetlights in Mowo, renovation of the staff canteen, upgrade of the Executive Chairman’s office, renovation of the Chieftaincy Chamber and procurement of office furniture for cabinet members.
The administration also outlined measures taken to strengthen security, including the renovation of the Mowo Police Station and the provision of a vehicle for the Joint Task Force to improve security operations across the council.
To safeguard public assets, perimeter fences were constructed around the Iworo and Ilogbo cemeteries, while members of the legislative arm received an official vehicle to support oversight responsibilities.
In the education sector, the council said it distributed more than 250 GCE examination forms and over 200 free JAMB forms to students seeking admission into tertiary institutions.
It also donated a laptop to a student living with a disability and procured National Identification Number (NIN) registration equipment, leading to the establishment of an additional enrolment centre within the LCDA.
The statement further highlighted several social intervention programmes, including ₦100,000 cash grants for vulnerable residents and widows, distribution of food palliatives, business support grants for entrepreneurs, and the provision of working tools and start-up equipment to artisans, youths and women.
The administration also organised a women empowerment programme featuring a symposium, cash grants, food distribution and the donation of start-up materials to beneficiaries.
As part of its youth development initiatives, the council introduced the Ajose Peter Kumayon Youth Football Championship to identify young talents, encourage healthy competition and promote unity among youths.
The administration also facilitated pilgrimage opportunities for eligible participants as part of efforts to encourage moral and spiritual development.
The statement maintained that the projects executed within the past year reflect the administration’s commitment to translating its RESHAPE Agenda into tangible benefits for residents.
It added that with ongoing projects such as the Morogbo Primary Health Centre, Aradagun Town Hall and the Mowo-Agemowo Road reconstruction progressing steadily, the administration remains focused on sustaining development and improving service delivery across Olorunda LCDA.
