The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), on Wednesday urged residents of the state to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and use them to vote in the August 15 governorship election.
Speaking during his campaign tour of Odo-Otin Local Government Area, which took him to Okuku, Ikirun and Iragbiji, Oyebamiji described the PVC as the people’s power to determine the future of the state, warning eligible voters against selling their voter cards.
Addressing supporters at different campaign stops, the APC candidate appealed to newly registered voters to collect their PVCs promptly, urging them to work with party officials at the local government level to ensure a seamless collection process.
“I am urging you to keep your PVC safe. Those who just registered should go and collect their PVCs on time. Liaise with our party officials at the local government level to make the process easier. Once you get your PVC, don’t sell it. It is your power and your licence to participate in the August 15 election,” he said.
Oyebamiji also assured residents that adequate security would be provided before, during and after the election, insisting that no voter would be intimidated or prevented from exercising his or her civic responsibility.
“No one can intimidate or harass you not to participate in the poll. Any thug or hoodlum caught harassing people will be severely dealt with by security operatives,” he stated.
The APC flag bearer pledged to run an inclusive administration if elected, promising that no part of Osun State would suffer discrimination under his government.
“I assure you that once you elect me as your governor, we will not discriminate against any part of the state. Our manifesto has provisions that will address every sector of the economy and improve the welfare of our people,” he said.
He identified agriculture as a major driver of his administration’s development agenda for rural communities, saying his government would invest in farming and provide critical infrastructure to boost food production, create jobs and reduce hunger.
According to him, his administration would also prioritise healthcare, education and commerce to stimulate economic growth and improve the quality of life of residents across the state.
Oyebamiji dismissed speculations that the forthcoming governorship election would be violent, urging residents to ignore what he described as unfounded rumours and participate peacefully in the democratic process.
“Don’t be distracted by the rumour that the election will be violent. The present government’s tenure is coming to an end, and by August 15, the people will usher in a new era of development,” he added.
Earlier, the APC campaign train paid a courtesy visit to traditional rulers in Odo-Otin at the Olokuku Palace in Okuku before addressing supporters at the market square.
The campaign later moved to Ikirun, where Oyebamiji addressed a large gathering of party faithful at the town hall before proceeding through Iree, Ada and Aagba, and rounding off the day’s activities in Iragbiji, where he reiterated his commitment to delivering good governance and sustainable development across Osun State.
