Stakeholders in Bauchi have cautioned political leaders and citizens against promoting ethnic and regional divisions as Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections, warning that such politics could threaten national unity.
They noted that while democracy encourages healthy political competition, excessive emphasis on sectional interests risks weakening the country’s cohesion and distracting attention from critical development challenges.
A public affairs analyst, Malam Jibrin Adamu gave the warning advise in an exclusive interview with New Telegraph over the weekend in Bauchi, said Nigerians should focus on electing leaders with the competence and vision to address economic difficulties, insecurity, unemployment and other national concerns.
According to him, democratic growth can only be sustained when voters prioritise policies, performance and accountability over ethnic or religious sentiments.
The stakeholders also called on political parties to embrace tolerance, peaceful campaigns and constructive engagement, saying issue-based politics remains the best path to credible elections and national stability.
They maintained that placing Nigeria’s collective interest above personal and regional ambitions would guarantee a stronger democracy.
Our correspondent report that Malam Adamu Jibrin was a former State House Assembly member and now save as Political Special Adviser in the present government of Governor Bala Mohammed.
