National grid issue plunges Lagos into darkness again

Public electricity users in many areas of Lagos were plunged into darkness on Sunday following the lost of supply from the national grid.

Eko Electricity Distribution Plc (EKEDP) confirmed lost of supply from the national grid in a service interruption notice it issued to its customers.
It explained that it lost supply from the national grid at exactly 13:49hrs on June 28, 2026, leading to a widespread disruption of electricity supply across its franchise area.
It stated that the power failure affected its entire network.
The notice read: “Please be informed that Eko Electricity Distribution Plc (EKEDP) lost supply from the national grid at 13:49hrs today, Sunday 28 June 2026. This is currently affecting electricity supply across our entire network,” the company said.

“This is a transmission-level incident outside our direct control. We are actively investigating the cause and are in contact with the relevant authorities to establish the full situation and restoration timeline.

“We sincerely regret the inconvenience this is causing and assure you that our teams are working to restore normal supply as quickly as possible.

“Further updates will be communicated as soon as confirmed information is available.”
The cause of the loss of power supply frol.national grid had yet to be explained as of the time of filing this story.

This incident occured less than a week after there was generation output reduction from Egbin Power Station and a fault on the Omotosho-Ikeja West 330kV transmission line.
