Only three political parties have contested in the by-election that was necessitated by the death of the House of Representatives member representing Daqakinkudu-Warawa Constituency in Kano state. The parties include the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC), Allied People’s Movement (APM) and the Labour Party (LP).
This was made known to newsmen by the Chairman of Warawa local government area, Sanusi Ahmad Garindau, on Saturday when he spoke on the conduct of the election.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), seen as the major political party trending in the state did NJ or participate in the election.
However, the election was peaceful, devoid of any kind of violence, as people turned out to vote massively.
“As you have all seen, the election is taking place peacefully without any hitches, which was necessitated by the death of the late member of the House of Representatives.
“The by-election as organized by the election umpire is taking place today to fill in the space.
“We have since been instructed by His Excellency the state governor to ensure that we do everything possible for there to be a peaceful and credible election.
“The by-election has taken place and it is only three political parties including APC, APM and LP that are participating” he stated.
He appreciated the peaceful conduct of exercise which he attributes to the good work of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agencies led by the police.
“INEC did excellently by making sure that all the 140 ballot boxes in the area were manned by well-tained staff that eased the process.
He also praised the people of the Dawakinkudu-Warawa constituency for being law abiding and participating actively in the election.
