The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that a total of 1,028,929 out of 1,059,360 registered voters in Ekiti State, have collected their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) at the close of the exercise on June 14, 2026.

INEC National Commissioner, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, who also doubles as Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, in a statement on Wednesday, said the commission achieved 97.1 percent of PVC collection.

The National Commissioner disclosed that INEC suspended the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Ekiti State on May 15, and thereafter, conducted clean-up of the voters’ register.

He noted that in line with Section 18(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which requires the INEC to make available to registered voters replacement PVCs in the event of the loss, damage or defacement of their original PVC, the commission received 14,406 applications within the stipulated time, and added that all 14,406 replacement PVCs were printed.

“The option of a downloadable copy of the lost, damaged or defaced voter cards could not be implemented in this election because the necessary technology infrastructure for this is yet to be completed,” Haruna stated, but assured that the option would be available to voters in August 2026 governorship election as other subsequent elections.

The National Commissioner disclosed that all the PVCs for the Ekiti State governorship have been printed and made available for all eligible applicants, “including those who requested a transfer, or applied for the replacement of lost, damaged or defaced cards.

He urged all registered voters who have collected their PVCs to turn out peacefully and exercise their franchise on election day, and reassured the people of Ekiti State of INEC’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, credible and inclusive governorship election.

Haruna appreciated the support of stakeholders, including traditional rulers, community leaders, civil society organisations, political parties and the media, in mobilising citizens to collect their PVCs and prepare for the forthcoming election.
