Veteran Nollywood actress Toyin Adewale has spoken warmly about the relationship between her son, Mayorkun, and Afrobeats star Davido, recalling the moment that changed his career.
Mayorkun, whose music journey gained momentum after being discovered by Davido, began his rise to fame under Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), where he released several successful records.
Speaking during an interview with Biola Bayo, Adewale revealed that she became emotional the first time she witnessed her son working with Davido. According to her, she was present when Davido first contacted Mayorkun and invited him to the studio.
She recalled that her son was overwhelmed with excitement after receiving the call. Davido reportedly asked him to come to the studio the following day, which eventually led to the recording of the hit song Eleko.
Adewale also shared her first impression of Davido and his team, describing them as respectful, pleasant, and welcoming.
“The first time I returned from America after nine years and saw them together, I stepped aside and cried. I thanked God because they truly made me proud. I was there when Davido called him, and he was extremely excited. Davido asked him to come to the studio the next day, and that was the night they recorded Eleko.
“Mayowa has always loved music. He writes poems and enjoys singing. When I met Davido and his team, they were all very pleasant and respectful. They even called me ‘Mummy.’ I thank God for Davido and everyone around him. I pray they continue to prosper and remain successful by God’s grace.”
