The Coalition Political Action Committee (COPAC) has called on the National Working Committee of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), to convene a national summit aimed at aligning the party’s candidates and campaign structures with the ADC manifesto, policy agenda, and strategic message ahead of the 2027 general elections
The summit, the group stated, should involve the ADC presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and all other candidates contesting the 2027 general election on the party’s platform.
COPAC in a communiqué at the end of its
Democracy Day Convening, held in Abuja on June 12, said the summit would provide a platform to deepen understanding of the party’s manifesto, strengthen message discipline, harmonise campaign strategies, and ensure that Nigerians are presented with a clear, consistent, and credible alternative government.
The group in the communiqué by its Director of Communications, Olu Onemola, observed that electoral success requires message discipline, policy clarity, and strategic coherence.
It added that Nigerians deserve to hear a clear and consistent articulation of the ADC’s solutions to the country’s challenges, and warned that a divided message could weaken a united cause.
According to COPAC, the national summit would ensure that all ADC candidates understand the party manifesto, and are equipped to communicate the party’s policies effectively, as well as speak from a unified strategic framework, which will present the ADC as credible alternative government in 2027.
The group also identified reconciliation within the party as an urgent priority, and called on the ADC leadership to embark on a comprehensive reconciliation process across all levels, as no political party can effectively prosecute a national campaign when burdened by unresolved internal disputes.
COPAC recommended outreach to aggrieved aspirants, stakeholders, and party leaders across the country, noting that reconciliation must precede mobilisation if the party is to build the unity necessary for victory in 2027.
The Democracy Day Convening was attended by Hon. Nnenna Elendu-Ukeji who represented the presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, ADC governorship candidate for Kwara State, Zakari Mohammed, and ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi.
Speakers at the event included Salihu Tanko Yakassai, Chairman of the Governing Council of Rise Up Nigeria (RUN); Jude Feranmi, economic policy expert; Zainab Buba Galadinma, who presented a fact-check and analysis of President Bola Tinubu’s Democracy Day address; and Demola Olarewaju, Senior Special Assistant on Political Matters to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
Other resolutions adopted by COPAC included a renewed commitment to ensuring that the ADC remains visible, vocal, and active in national discourse; expanding youth participation in party structures and electoral activities; defending democratic freedoms and civil liberties; and mobilising Nigerians around a credible alternative to the APC-led Federal Government.
The convener, Egnr. Aminu Datti Ahmad, said COPAC is committed to strengthening the ADC as a platform for democratic renewal and national transformation.
Ahmad added that Nigerians are looking to the ADC not merely as another opposition party, but as a credible vehicle for change.
