The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has approved former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
ADC NEC meeting which was held on Saturday in Abuja, also approved the results of all recently conducted primaries for state Houses of Assembly, the National Assembly and state governorships primaries, “except those with pending appeals as at May 29, 2026, and those yet to be concluded.”
ADC has elected former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as its candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The party in a statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdulllahi, also disclosed that the ADC NEC approved “the extension of the tenure of the National Working Committee (NWC) for a period of 12 months from the expiry of their current tenure.
“NEC approved the constitution of the Caretaker Committees the zonal, state, local government and wards for a period of 12 months.”
It named former Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasiru el-Rufai as prisoner of conscience and called for his immediate release.
ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, had in a speech, decried the rising cost of living in the country, unemployment, declining purchasing power and social discontent.
Mark demanded urgent and sincere attention from those entrusted with governance.
“As a responsible opposition party, the ADC does not celebrate the difficulties confronting our nation, nor do we seek political advantage from the pain of our people.
“Rather, we stand firmly in support of every sincere effort aimed at restoring peace, security, economic stability and national cohesion,” Mark said.
The former President of the Senate called on the governments at all levels to intensify efforts toward tackling insecurity decisively and implementing policies that make life more meaningful for Nigerians.
