As Muslims in Nigeria and around the world celebrate Eid-El-Kabir, leaders of the National Assembly have called for sacrifice, national unity, and prayers for peace and renewal.
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, in a congratulatory message through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, felicitated President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and Muslim faithful on the occasion.
He said the sacred celebration reminds Nigerians of Prophet Ibrahim’s unwavering faith, obedience, and willingness to sacrifice for the sake of Almighty Allah, saying: “These timeless virtues of devotion, selflessness, and submission to divine will are values our nation desperately needs today,” Akpabio stated.
Speaking on behalf of his family, constituents, and the Senate, the President of the Senate prayed that the lessons of sacrifice, compassion, and generosity that define the season would strengthen faith and bring peace to homes.
He urged Muslims to share with the less privileged and extend love to neighbors of all faiths, describing it as “the true spirit of Nigeria.”
Akpabio called on all Nigerians to use the solemn period to pray fervently for peace, security, and prosperity in the country, saying:
“Let us pray for our troops in the frontlines, for farmers to return safely to their fields, and for unity to prevail over division in our nation,” he said.
Akpabio noted that Eid-El-Kabir also calls for deep reflection on Nigeria’s future, likening the nation’s current challenges to the test faced by Prophet Ibrahim, stating: “Just as Prophet Ibrahim was tested, Nigeria is in a season of testing”.
He added that the sacrifices Nigerians make today in patience, tolerance, and choosing hope over despair will determine the Nigeria their children inherit.
Akpabio reaffirmed that the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration, supported by the National Assembly, is anchored on the principle that meaningful progress often requires collective sacrifice.
He prayed that Almighty Allah would accept the prayers and sacrifices of the faithful, heal the land, guide leaders, and bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In a separate Sallah message, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, rejoiced with Muslims across the country, urging sustained prayers, unity, and support for the poor and vulnerable.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir, Senator Barau urged Muslims and all Nigerians to use the occasion to pray for peace, unity, and the continued progress of the country.
Barau, who is also First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, congratulated Nigerian pilgrims performing Hajj in Saudi Arabia and urged them to remember Nigeria and its leaders in their prayers at the holy sites.
He noted that their prayers at such a sacred period are invaluable to national development, calling for petitions for enduring peace, stability, and prosperity.
The Deputy Senate President also urged Nigerians to continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that the President remains committed to addressing the nation’s challenges and improving citizens’ well-being.
“This season reminds us of total submission to the will of Allah, as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim. True believers must uphold the values of sacrifice, obedience, tolerance, justice, and charity,” Barau said.
Also joining in the Sallah greetings, Senator Solomon Adeola, representing Ogun West Senatorial District and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, enjoined Muslim faithful to pray for peace and the consolidation of Renewed Hope Agenda gains.
In his Eid-El-Kabir message signed by his Media Adviser, Kayode Odunaro, Senator Adeola said strict adherence to Islamic teachings on sacrifice, love, brotherliness, piousness, and peaceful coexistence will assist Nigeria in consolidating observable gains under President Tinubu.
“As the administration prepares to mark its third year in office with acclaimed positive indicators of escaping total economic collapse, the nation needs security, peace, understanding, and sacrifices to consolidate observable gains,” Adeola stated.
The Senator, who is the APC governorship candidate for Ogun State’s 2027 election, wished all Muslim faithful at home and those in the Holy Land for Hajj a joyous celebration.
He pledged to continue effective representation by ensuring his constituents in Ogun West and beyond enjoy dividends of democracy through the Renewed Hope Agenda and his facilitated programs in education, roads, boreholes, transformers, and other empowerment initiatives.
