The Labour Party has rescheduled its primaries and national convention for the election of candidates for the 2027; general elections.
The party had earlier fixed May 27 for governorship and state House of Assembly primaries, and May 29 for National Assembly and presidential primaries.
But the National Publicity Secretary Ken Asogwa, in a statement said all the primaries will now hold on May 30 due to Eid el-Kabir celebration which is on May 27.
“This decision became necessary following the coincidence of the earlier dates with two important national events,” the party stated.
It added that May 29 marks the third anniversary of the inauguration of the present elected public office holders across the country.
“In consideration of the spiritual significance of the Sallah celebration and the national importance of the 29th May anniversary, the Labour Party, as a people-oriented and responsive political party, deemed it appropriate to adjust its schedule in order to enable members, aspirants, supporters, and Nigerians generally to fully observe these important occasions,” the statement said.
It regretted any inconvenience this adjustment might cause aspirants, stakeholders, supporters, and members of the public, and appreciated their understanding and cooperation.
