We’ve secured 2/3 majority to call PDP NEC meeting – Wabara-led BoT

It is still a discordant tone in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the two party factions roll out different programmes.

PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) led by former President of the Senate, Adolphus Wabara, on Sunday evening, announced that it has secured the statutorily required consent of two-third of the members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) to convene the 103rd NEC meeting of the party on Monday, May 4, with the purpose of constituting interim National Caretaker Committee.

He disclosed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been duly notified to be present at the meeting.

The other faction led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, which had already began sale of nomination forms for next year’s general elections, announced the postponement of the exercise.

Wabara who presided over the board meeting on Sunday, stated that despite the travails, “PDP is still standing strong and can never die.

“The PDP will never surrender to renegades and political brigands. We must stand firm and resist all machinations from individuals and institutions set against us.

“We have weathered the storm; we have shamed naysayers and a bright sunny day lies ahead.”

The former president of the Senate, however called for foster unity and genuine reconciliation, so as to “stabilise, strengthen and energise our party for the task ahead.”

Wike faction in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, said the sale of nomination forms earlier scheduled to close on May 4, has been extended to May 7.

“The final date for the submission of completed forms remains unchanged: May 9, 2026.

“All interested aspirants are advised to take note of this extension and be guided accordingly,” Mohammed advised.
