The apex decision making organ of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, the Governors Advisory Council (GAC), has adopted the deputy governor, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, as the consensus candidate for the upcoming 2027 gubernatorial elections.
The GAC announced the development on Tuesday at the Lagos House, Marina, after extensive closed door deliberations including the governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu and and other party leaders, where they also announced the decision to foot the ₦50 million nomination form fees for Hamzat.
Addressing journalists after their meeting, GAC chairman, Prince Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi said: We have all agreed that, Dr. Olufemi Hamzat, the current deputy governor of our state, is the consensus candidate of our party
In his remarks, governor Sanwo-Olu, while corroborating the GAC chairman, added that the GAC contributed the money for the presidential nomination form for president Bola Ahmed Tinubu who seeks a second term in the general election come 2027.
He added that the party will adhere to the constitution of their party, the APC in picking the candidate for the governorship elections.
“Yes, we’re still doing the primaries, there’s a procedure to it, we’ll still do that. We just want you to know that this body has, you know, adopted him, he said, adding that: “And you also see a video that I’m sure is coming out from Abuja where the presidential form has been procured.
“I want to tell you that it is us here in Lagos as well that have sent forth to procure The 100 million or so presidential form fees for mr president, who is also our father who is also going to be running under the platform of our party” Sanwo-Olu concluded
