Man Arrested for Paying 900K To Kidnap Aunt Who Raised Him

A 31-year-old man who was taken in and raised by his aunt from the age of five has been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for allegedly masterminding a plot to have the same woman kidnapped — in a case of betrayal that has shocked investigators and the public alike.
The suspect, Chukwuemeka Destiny, was paraded before journalists on Saturday, April 25, with police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe describing the case as a deeply troubling example of ingratitude and treachery against a benefactor.
According to Edafe, the victim welcomed Destiny into her home as a young child and cared for him for a decade, seeing him through his formative years and his education. In a stunning act of betrayal, Destiny recently returned to her home — not out of gratitude, but to lay the groundwork for her abduction.
Edafe said Destiny made two separate payments to individuals he believed were kidnappers-for-hire: an initial deposit of N200,000 followed by a second instalment of N700,000. However, the plot collapsed spectacularly when the men he approached turned out to be no kidnappers at all. Instead of carrying out the abduction, they turned the tables on Destiny, used him as bait, and handed him over to the police.
“Unknown to him, the people he contacted were not kidnappers. They rather used him as bait, got him and handed him over to the police, thereby saving the life of his auntie,” Edafe told journalists.
During interrogation, Destiny broke down and admitted his guilt, struggling to offer any coherent explanation for his actions.

“Sincerely speaking, I am guilty of what really happened. I don’t know what came over me. I can’t tell. It’s the devil’s work,” he said.
His aunt, who identified herself as the sister of Destiny’s mother, said she was devastated when she learned of the plot against her life. Fighting back tears, she told journalists she had been left in shock — yet despite their blood ties, she called for the law to take its full course against her nephew.

Destiny is currently being held by the Raiders Squad of the Delta State Police Command pending the conclusion of investigations.
