Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has openly endorsed Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election.
The announcement was made on Monday during a strategic caucus meeting of APC leaders and stakeholders in the state, where discussions focused on succession plans and preparations ahead of the next electoral cycle.
In a video clip from the meeting, Abiodun told party members that a decision had already been reached on who would fly the party’s flag in the forthcoming governorship race.
“But first, we’ve decided who is deserving as the next flag bearer of our dear state,” the governor declared.
Following the announcement, Adeola rose to his feet amid loud cheers from party faithful, with chants and music filling the venue in a show of support for the Ogun West lawmaker.
The governor also used the occasion to stress the importance of political continuity within the APC, recalling previous leadership transitions and urging stakeholders to remain united in backing a candidate capable of sustaining the party’s dominance in the state.
The meeting, attended by key party chieftains and influential stakeholders, is being viewed as a major development in Ogun’s political landscape ahead of 2027.
Party insiders say the endorsement could significantly shape the contest by narrowing the field and consolidating support around Adeola as the APC moves to maintain its grip on power in the state.
