Tinubu Commissions Lagos Iconic Projects, Commends Sanwo-Olu

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday commissioned a set of landmark infrastructure projects in Lagos State, praising Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his commitment to transformative governance and sustainable urban development.

The commissioning ceremony, held at the newly completed Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex in Alausa, marked the beginning of a two-day presidential visit focused on unveiling critical projects across Nigeria’s commercial capital.

Among the projects commissioned were the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge, the Lagos State Geographical Information System (LAGIS) Building, and the multi-agency administrative complex, all described as strategic investments aimed at improving mobility, governance efficiency, and urban planning.

Speaking at the event, President Tinubu, who was represented by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, described the projects as “symbols of purpose,” noting that they reflect a government that understands that development must be visible, impactful and people-centered.

He emphasized the importance of infrastructure in driving economic growth, stating that improved transportation networks such as the Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge would significantly reduce travel time, boost productivity and enhance the quality of life for residents.

“In a city like Lagos, movement is everything. When traffic improves, productivity also improves. When time is saved, businesses grow,” the President said.

Tinubu also highlighted the significance of the LAGIS Building, noting that modern land administration systems are essential for economic development, transparency, and investment attraction in a rapidly growing megacity like Lagos.

“A modern land administration system is not optional; it is essential. It reduces uncertainty, strengthens planning, and unlocks economic value,” he added.
Commending Governor Sanwo-Olu’s leadership, the President lauded his administration’s discipline in financial management and focus on service delivery.

“You have shown that governance must be about service delivery. These projects are investments in the future of Lagosians,” Tinubu said, urging residents to protect and make good use of the infrastructure.

Earlier in his address, Governor Sanwo-Olu described the President’s presence as symbolic, noting that Tinubu, as a former governor of Lagos State, laid the foundation for the modern city now being expanded upon by successive administrations.

“Your Excellency’s return today is not to reminisce, but to commission. That is the mark of a leader whose vision is never small,” Sanwo-Olu said.

The governor explained that the Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge, a 5.04-kilometre transport corridor, was designed to ease congestion along the busy Ikeja-Maryland-Ojota axis by providing an alternative route linking Opebi/Allen to Ikorodu Road.

He added that the project incorporated advanced engineering solutions to address the swampy terrain, alongside features such as walkways, bicycle lanes, solar-powered lighting, and stormwater management systems.

On the LAGIS Building, Sanwo-Olu said it represents a shift from manual to digital land administration, aimed at strengthening property rights and improving the ease of doing business in Lagos.

The Bola Ahmed Tinubu Administrative Complex, he noted, would enhance coordination among government agencies, improve service delivery, and provide a modern working environment for public servants.

Sanwo-Olu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining momentum in governance, noting that with just over 400 days left in office, his government would intensify efforts to deliver impactful projects.

“As we commission these projects, we are mindful that there is still more to be done. We will continue to invest in infrastructure and improve the quality of life for all Lagosians,” he said.

Sanwo-Olu further expressed optimism about continued collaboration with the federal government, citing ongoing and planned projects including the coastal highway and upgrades to key transport infrastructure in the state.

The commissioning event drew top government officials, lawmakers, and stakeholders, including: Governors of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, Ogun, Dapo Abiodun, Borno, Babagana Zulum, and Bayelsa, Duoye Diri of Bayelsa.

Others at the event include, former governor of Lagos Akinwumi Ambode, former Nigerian Ambassador to Ghana Musliu Obanikoro among others.
