Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a man, Oluwadamilare Ewedemi, for allegedly sexually abusing his daughter repeatedly and procuring five illegal abortions for her.
The suspect was apprehended following a report lodged at the Ifo Divisional Headquarters by the 21-year-old survivor, whose name was withheld for security reasons.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the harrowing ordeal began in 2019 after Ewedemi took the victim to live with him in Ijebu Ode.
According to the police, the survivor, who lost her mother as an infant, had previously been raised in a motherless babies’ home in Ikeja, Lagos State, before her father surfaced to take her into his custody under the guise of parental care.
Confirming the arrest on Monday, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, stated that the victim eventually found the courage to escape her father’s house on February 1, 2026.
“The survivor escaped due to the persistent abuse and sought refuge at a church in the Pakoto area. The matter was formally reported on March 26, prompting swift action by operatives of the Ifo Division,” Babaseyi said.
The PPRO further disclosed the gruesome details of the victim’s statement, noting that the suspect allegedly forced her to terminate five different pregnancies resulting from the incestuous relationship.
Babaseyi added, “During the period she stayed with him, she became pregnant five times, and her father reportedly procured an abortion for each pregnancy. The suspect was apprehended following intelligence gathering by officers led by the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Kamorudeen.”
The command stated that the suspect is currently in custody, while the case has been transferred to the Gender Desk of the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and subsequent prosecution.
