“My Father’s Wives Had Other Men” – Seun Kuti Shocks Fans with Fela Revelation

Popular singer Seun Kuti has dropped a bombshell about his late father, Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, claiming that the music icon allowed his wives to have relationships with other men—one of the mistakes that led to Fela contracting HIV.

Speaking during a recent Instagram livestream, Seun dismissed long-standing claims that Fela infected his partners, insisting instead that the virus came from his father’s women.

“I had to go for therapy when I saw people blaming my father for giving women HIV. This is not normal,” Seun said. “Fela’s women all had other men. He didn’t keep his women to himself. He believed that as he was free to sleep with all the women, they were free to meet other men, as long as they didn’t bring them into his house. My father never went outside for women; it was his women who brought HIV home to him.”

Seun, while highlighting his father’s mistakes, described Fela as a man “on the side of humanity,” urging fans to celebrate the Afrobeat legend beyond his personal flaws.
