World Bank Hails Gombe as Model in Project Implementation

The World Bank has described Gombe State as a model for effective implementation of development projects in Nigeria, citing its strong performance and commitment to results-driven governance.

The commendation came from the World Bank Country Director for Nigeria, Matthew Verghis, during an official visit to the state, where he praised the leadership of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya and the high level of ownership in executing donor-supported programmes.

Verghis noted that Gombe stands out among states benefiting from World Bank interventions, recording impressive outcomes across multiple projects.

“We have observed that projects are performing even better in Gombe compared to many other states. One key factor is the active engagement of the governor,” he said.

He explained that the Bank’s shift toward state-led implementation and results-based financing has improved accountability and efficiency, with Gombe emerging as a leading example.

According to him, the state has demonstrated that strong leadership and commitment can drive impactful development outcomes despite limited resources.
