A’Court Ruling: PDP Governors Preach Calm, Respect for Rule of Law

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has called on party members and supporters across the country to remain calm and law-abiding ahead of Monday’s Appeal Court ruling on the party’s leadership crisis.

In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by the Director General of the Forum, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, the governors said Nigerians and party faithful should show restraint and respect the judicial process as the nation awaits the verdict.

The Forum, chaired by Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, said the judiciary remains a critical pillar of democracy and urged stakeholders to accept the court’s decision peacefully.

According to the statement, the party leadership would meet immediately after the judgment to review the outcome and determine the next line of action.

“The PDP reaffirms its respect for the judicial process and its commitment to peace. We urge our members, supporters and all Nigerians to remain calm and disciplined in their reactions to the ruling,” the statement said.

The governors noted that the PDP had remained a key pillar in Nigeria’s democratic development, both as a ruling party and as a strong opposition committed to strengthening democratic institutions.

They also urged members with political ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections to maintain confidence in the party, assuring them that the PDP would provide a viable platform to pursue their aspirations.

The statement added that despite the leadership dispute and the release of the election timetable by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the party remained determined to protect the interests and ambitions of its members.

Looking ahead, the governors stressed that the PDP was prepared to participate fully in the democratic process and offer Nigerians a credible alternative in the next elections.

“The judiciary has always remained an impartial arm of government whose defence of the constitution has helped sustain Nigeria’s democratic governance,” the statement added.
