Federal Capital Territory ( FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has berated the outgoing chairman of Kuje Area Council, Abdullahi Sabo of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) for his betrayal during the just concluded Area Council elections, and confessing ‘ fake’ support for President Bola Tinubu.
Wike said the outgoing chairman who had completed his two tenures, but failed to produce a successor on the platform of PDP, pledged to support the candidate of the All Progressives Congress ( APC), Samuel Shekwolo, but disappeared one week before the election.
The Minister disclosed that he had meetings with the outgoing chairman and other stakeholders who had made commitment to supporting and promoting the interest of the President, but later reneged on his promises.
He urged the outgoing chairman to be true to his commitment to supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda and not be double-tongued.
He said: “The outgoing chairman has said irrespective of party affiliation that we are together. But let me just tell you, stand by whatever you say. Stand by whatever you say. Hold on, hold on. You know what I’m saying.
“We have had meetings more than 10 times even at midnight. We all agreed, but before I knew it, within a week of the election, the chairman disappeared. It’s not good.
“He has said by 2027, they will vote for President Tinubu. I hope not one week before the election too he will run away. Why? Whether you run, you don’t run, we know how we will talk to the people of Kuje and the people of Kuje will listen to us”.
The Minister also charged the chairman-elect, and the councillors to be available for the people and ensure that good governance takes root at the communities.
He added: “Now, Samuel, let me tell you now, It’s only when you enter office we will see the humility.
“You know, when a man has not seen power, a man has not seen money, you cannot determine whether he will be humble or he will not be humble.
“Do you understand me? Because these two factors are very serious factors that can change a man, can change a woman, within a second.
“You don’t know what it takes when he has security following him. You don’t know what it means when he is sitting in his office and there are so many people looking for him.
“So, power and money are two very important things that you must consider. I pray and I do believe that you will not abandon your people. I know that people demand a lot, but do the best you can.
“Don’t be a chairman that is an away chairman. Be a chairman that is a home chairman. Don’t run away from listening to your people. Because when you were campaigning, you were always at home. Now that the results are strong, don’t be an away chairman”.
