In a major stride towards youth empowerment and holistic education, the State Science, Technical and Vocational Schools Management Board (STVSMB), under the purposeful leadership of its Chairman, Dr. Amaka Ngene, has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Rangers International Football Club Foundation to implement Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Sports Intervention Initiative across its schools. The partnership, sealed at the Rangers Corporate Headquarters in Enugu, reflects the Board’s unwavering commitment to building disciplined, resilient, and well-rounded students prepared for leadership and national development.
Speaking during the ceremony, the General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of Rangers International Football Club, Barrister Amobi Ezeaku, described the agreement as a visionary investment in the future of young people. Represented by the Club Secretary, Barrister Alex Egbo, he noted that football serves as a powerful platform for instilling discipline, teamwork, and leadership, stressing that talent alone is insufficient without emotional intelligence and character. He explained that the initiative would equip students with critical life skills, including emotional management, empathy, responsible decision-making, and goal setting.
In her remarks, Dr. Ngene described the partnership as a bold and strategic step towards producing what she termed the “complete and well-rounded student.” She emphasised that while technical skills remain essential, Social Emotional Learning is the foundation that builds leaders and sustains careers. According to her, the collaboration will expand learning beyond workshops and classrooms to deliberately nurture resilience, teamwork, and self-discipline, thereby strengthening both the competence and character of students in line with modern workforce demands.
The Chairman further noted that the initiative aligns with Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s Tomorrow Is Here vision and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, both of which prioritise youth empowerment and human capital development. She affirmed that the partnership demonstrates STVSMB’s proactive approach to shaping the future, adding that by integrating sports excellence with technical education, the Board is empowering young people not only to dream but to design and build a better Nigeria.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Rangers Foundation, DSP Ebere Amarizu, said the programme is aimed at promoting holistic development and strengthening the self-esteem, leadership capacity, and critical thinking abilities of young people through sports and Social Emotional Learning. Stakeholders described the partnership as a testament to Dr. Ngene’s dedication, resilience, and transformative leadership, noting that the initiative will further position STVSMB as a model institution in character building, technical excellence, and youth development in Enugu State.
