The Nigeria national football team are gearing up for a pair of international friendly matches in March, with fixtures against Jordan national football team and potential opposition from Iran national football team on the horizon as part of preparations ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Nigeria’s meeting with Jordan is expected to take place in Amman between March 23 and 31, offering both nations valuable match practice before football’s global showpiece. Jordan, who qualified for their first-ever World Cup finals, are keen to test themselves against African opposition as they build towards the tournament in North America next summer.
Meanwhile, talks are advancing between the Nigeria Football Federation and Iranian football authorities over a possible March friendly with Iran, with discussions ongoing as both sides look to finalise arrangements. Iran is likewise tuning up for the 2026 World Cup with pre-tournament matches.
However, Nigeria’s plans hinge on a crucial ruling by FIFA regarding the Super Eagles’ protest against the DR Congo national football team over player eligibility in the African World Cup playoffs. If FIFA’s decision favours Nigeria, the team could be reinstated into the intercontinental playoff series in March, potentially impacting their availability for the friendly fixtures.
The friendly encounters, if confirmed, will provide valuable competitive action for the Super Eagles as they seek to bounce back from their playoff heartbreak and fine-tune their preparations for future international assignments.
