Sanwo-Olu Pledges Continued Support for Armed Forces, Honours Fallen Heroes

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering support for the Nigerian Armed Forces as they continue to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty and protect lives and property.

The governor gave the assurance on Thursday during the Parade and Laying of Wreaths Ceremony to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, held at the Remembrance Arcade, Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos Island.

Sanwo-Olu, who was represented at the event by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, said the Lagos State Government remains fully committed to the welfare of serving military personnel as well as the families of fallen heroes.

According to him, the sacrifices of officers who laid down their lives in the line of duty will never be forgotten by the government and people of Nigeria.

He noted that members of the Armed Forces continue to risk their lives daily to ensure national security, stressing the need for both federal and state governments to reciprocate through sustained support and recognition.

“Today’s Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day is to honour and encourage our military personnel, remember our fallen heroes and pray for them. It is also to let them know that their sacrifices have not been in vain. This ceremony shows that the nation stands with them and will continue to do everything necessary to support them,” the governor said.

Sanwo-Olu further emphasised the state’s commitment to assisting widows and families of fallen heroes, adding that while many of the government’s interventions may not always be visible, they are consistent and deliberate.
He assured that Lagos State will continue to value, motivate and support military personnel in recognition of their service to the nation.

In his remarks, the Deputy Controller-General of the Nigerian Legion Council, DCG Wolimoh Hakeem Olawale, commended the Lagos State Government for its sustained support for the Armed Forces, particularly the welfare of widows of fallen heroes.

DCG Olawale reaffirmed the Nigerian Legion’s commitment to the welfare of military veterans and the dependents of deceased officers, noting that the Legion remains a statutory body established to cater for those who have served the nation and the families they left behind.
