FRSC Targets Influencer Peller Over Distracted Driving Crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps has announced plans to prosecute popular TikTok content creator Peller following a road crash that occurred while he was reportedly engaging with his phone during a live video session. The incident, which quickly gained attention on social media, has raised fresh concerns about distracted driving and the influence of online personalities on public behaviour.

The FRSC said the video circulating online showed the influencer driving while interacting with viewers, a practice the agency described as dangerous and a clear violation of traffic regulations. According to the corps, such actions significantly increase the risk of crashes and endanger not only the driver but other road users, including pedestrians and fellow motorists.

Reacting to the incident, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, expressed concern over what he described as a growing trend of reckless driving by social media influencers in pursuit of online engagement. He noted that individuals with large followings have a responsibility to promote safe conduct, stressing that fame does not place anyone above the law.

Following the incident, the FRSC directed the Lagos State Sector Command to begin legal proceedings against the TikToker. The offences listed include distracted driving, use of a mobile phone while driving, and reckless driving. The agency said the prosecution forms part of its wider efforts to enforce road safety laws and reduce preventable accidents across the country.

The FRSC also called on content creators, entertainment bodies and influencer groups to educate their members on the dangers of unsafe driving practices. The agency warned that recording or live streaming while driving could have fatal consequences and urged the public to prioritise safety over online attention.

The development has sparked renewed debate about responsible use of social media, especially when digital activities intersect with public safety. Road safety advocates have welcomed the FRSC’s decision, describing it as a strong reminder that all road users, regardless of status or popularity, are accountable under the law.
