Sokoto Govt Urges Media Practitioners to Promote Patriotism

The Sokoto State Government has urged the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and all media practitioners to continue promoting patriotism by combating misinformation, adhering to ethical standards, and highlighting developmental efforts that strengthen public confidence in governance.

The State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Alhaji Sambo Bello Danchadi, stated this at the Congress and public lecture organized by the NUJ Sokoto Chapter.

Danchadi commended the leadership and members of the NUJ for sustaining a platform where ideas are exchanged, professionalism is strengthened, and national consciousness is deepened.

The theme of the lecture, “Patriotism, Journalism and National Development,” is timely and essential, especially in a period when the nation faces diverse social, economic, and security challenges.

“Journalism is not merely a profession—it is a national duty. A patriotic journalist is one who upholds truth, fairness, and balance, and who reports with a deep sense of responsibility to the nation,” Danchadi emphasized.

He noted that patriotism in journalism does not mean concealing the truth but telling it constructively, accurately, and in ways that contribute to peace, development, and public trust.

Danchadi highlighted the government’s efforts to strengthen the media landscape, including transforming the Sokoto State Media Corporation, installing new transmitters for Rima FM, and providing modern broadcasting gadgets.

He thanked the NUJ Sokoto State Chapter for the recently concluded State Government Projects Tour, which boosted the dissemination of accurate and reliable information on government activities and achievements.

The Commissioner urged the NUJ and all media practitioners to continue promoting patriotism while the Ministry of Information would continue to support the media through collaboration, capacity building, and open access to information.

Earlier, the NUJ State Chairman, Usman Mohammed Binji, expressed gratitude to the state Governor for approving the NUJ’s project monitoring tour and reaffirmed the union’s commitment to professionalism and constructive collaboration with stakeholders.
