The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has kicked off a nationwide mobilisation and recruitment drive as part of its preparations for the 2027 general elections, emphasising a focus on leaders with integrity and verifiable records. In a statement issued by the party’s Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, the NNPP directed its state and local government executives to begin identifying and engaging politicians who align with the party’s values and goals. According to party leadership, the move is aimed at strengthening the NNPP’s organisational base and ensuring that it fields credible candidates at all levels of government in the run‑up to the next national polls.
Aniebonam noted that the party’s recent internal leadership disputes and litigation had previously hampered its ability to participate effectively in past elections. He described the period of tension with the Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso‑led Kwankwasiya Movement as a distraction that diverted attention from the party’s core mission. With those issues now largely resolved, he urged party leaders and members to focus fully on advancing what he described as the NNPP’s fundamental objective: to promote good governance anchored in accountability, transparency, and the fear of God. He emphasised that the party is committed to recruiting politicians who have demonstrated honourable conduct and who can contribute meaningfully to national development.
The NNPP’s mobilisation initiative also includes a renewed effort to drive membership registration and update its existing membership register. In his address, Aniebonam made it clear that existing members who are unwilling to uphold the party’s ideals are free to seek political platforms elsewhere, emphasising that the NNPP does not hold grudges against former members but rather believes in unity and forward momentum. This stance reflects the party’s attempt to rebrand and reposition itself after a period marked by internal disagreements and public disputes over leadership and direction.
Political analysts say the NNPP’s nationwide outreach comes at a critical time, as major political parties across Nigeria intensify their groundwork more than a year ahead of the 2027 elections. With the political landscape already showing signs of early contestation and strategic alignments, the NNPP’s approach appears aimed at establishing a broad and credible slate of candidates who can compete in federal, state, and local elections. Party leaders have underscored the importance of integrity and proven track records, suggesting that the NNPP wants to appeal to voters who are increasingly focused on accountability and performance in public office.
As the nation edges closer to the 2027 poll season, the NNPP’s mobilisation strategy puts it among the parties actively preparing for what promises to be a highly contested electoral cycle. By concentrating on building a strong roster of politicians with integrity, the party hopes to broaden its appeal and make significant inroads in constituencies nationwide. Observers say the effectiveness of this strategy will be tested as Nigeria’s political environment becomes more dynamic and competitive in the coming months.
