Tinubu Pushes for Unity as Osun APC Aspirants Back Consensus Deal

A group of Osun APC governorship aspirants has agreed to support a consensus candidate after a joint declaration affirming party unity and respect for internal processes. The commitment, backed by party leaders and top officials, is aimed at strengthening the APC’s chances in the 2025 governorship election.

Before this agreement, President Bola Tinubu had warned that internal conflicts previously cost the party the Osun governorship seat. He urged aspirants to prioritise unity, respect party supremacy and avoid divisions that could weaken the party ahead of the December 13 primary.

The declaration followed a meeting that brought together APC aspirants, national leaders and senior government officials. Key figures such as the APC National Chairman, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum all aligned behind the push for cohesion.

Tinubu expressed full confidence in the party’s ability to reclaim Osun, assuring the aspirants that they would receive the support of the national leadership. He reminded them of their responsibility to deliver victory by working together rather than competing destructively.

Although the meeting took place at the State House in Abuja, the ripple effect is expected to shape the party’s preparation ahead of INEC’s deadline, which requires political parties to submit their candidates for the August 8, 2026 Osun governorship election by December 15.

The collective pledge marks a significant step for a party that previously struggled with internal disagreements, raising hopes for a more coordinated campaign this time around.
