Kalu Alleged Local, Int’l Conspiracy On Nigeria’s Security Challenges

Former Abia State governor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has attributed the rising insecurity in the country to the 2027 general elections.

Kalu who spoke in an interview on National Television Sunday night, alleged the insecurity in the country was orchestrated by international community that wants to destabilise the country.

He however assured that the Nigerian government is equal to the task, adding that the abducted school children would be rescued.

“This has to do with routine elections,” Kanu who presents Abia North in the National Assembly, stated, recalling that the same scenario played out when Goodluck Jonathan was president.

“This is not the best of time for Nigeria. It is politically motivated. These people are partially mercenaries brought into the country by politicians to destabilise the country. But the Federal Government is equal to the task.

“President (Bola) Tinubu is equal to the task; he is not sleeping. Today Sunday, he held security meeting with service chiefs,” he added.

The lawmaker who told his interviewer that the intelligence community knows the people causing insecurity in the country and their sponsors, said Nigeria in under policed.

He blamed the delay in the passage of the State Police Bill by National Assembly, on the slow pace of democracy, noting that such a bill requires the concurrent adoption of two-thirds of state Houses of Assembly.

According to him, several laws passed by the 9th National Assembly could not sail though at state Houses of Assembly level for the same reason.

“The Senate approved the recruitment of 100,000 soldiers. Nigeria needs more policemen. This is a country of about 300 million.

“We have made a lot of laws. We can’t force anybody to join the police. Nigeria is a huge country,” Senator Kanu said, and blamed the problem on sabotage.

He alleged that the international community does not want Nigeria to work, because “if Nigeria has peace for 20 years, it will overcome most countries of the world.”

Kalu said he has no problem with the planned intervention of the American President Donald Trump in Nigeria’s security challenges, but said it must be in collaboration with the Nigerian government.

He recalled that he called for the establishment of American military base in Nigeria at Federal Council of State meeting, when he was governor, “because it is going to serve a lot of purposes.

“I support what Trump is saying, but it should be in collaboration with the Nigerian government.”

Kalu said Nigeria is a sovereign nation, and has participated in the United Nations and ECOWAS backed peacekeeping forces in some peace challenged countries.

The lawmaker stated that he faced similar security challenges when he was governor of Abia State, which he recalled, led to his establishment of security outfit called ‘Bakassi’.

“Bakassi addressed security challenges in Abia and Anambra State under (Dr. Chinewoke) Mbaduniju.

“When I was governor, lives and property were secured,” he said.

On the leader of the Indigenous People’s of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu who is serving a life sentence, Kalu called for sombre reflection, noting that over 30,000 Igbo people were killed and many shops owners went into bankruptcy, as a result of insecurity in the South East.

He promised to continue to engage the Federal Government on political solution to the problem.
