Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, has expressed hope that Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), can be freed through political channels despite his life sentence handed down by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
Kalu emphasized that political solutions, previously limited while the case was before the court, can now be pursued with renewed focus. He expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu would be receptive to the appeals of well-meaning Igbo leaders, assuring the South East and all Nigerians to remain calm.
He stated, “It is now time to explore political solutions that had been hindered because the matter was before the court. But now that the court has finished, it is time to intensify request for the President’s intervention and we are sure that the President is not averse to it. We are going to get it. All hope is not lost. Our people should remain calm.”
